Not the phone call you want at 7:30pm. ‘Erm your cows are out’ We are lucky in the fact that they know their way home so were heading our way but not what we wanted for a few more weeks. After getting the cows into a random field as nothing was prepared we headed down to where they should have been to find the pedestrian gate had been left wide open. Please can all walkers make sure gates are shut once you go through them, you may not see any livestock in the field but they may be hiding. We don’t normally post the harsher sides of our farm life. Farming is most definitely not a 9-5 job, it’s not even a job, it’s a consuming way of life. Many who have been into the shop and cafe over the last couple of days have heard us talking or even being served while being on the phone to the vet. This ewe lamb named socks fell extremely ill Thursday morning and went for a trip to the vet for a break from the farm, as absolutely fantastic the farm vets are here on the island they have done all they can for this little lass. So it’s now down to us and her to make sure she has enough fight in her to bounce back. Looks like we’re down the shed every few hours tonight to hold her up to eat and drink till she has the strength in herself. So excuse us if we look tired Saturday. 🐑
